ok, this is how I do it:
turn the engine and keep an eye on the rocker arms, stop when BOTH, In and Out, rockers are moving (one opens one closes) this position should be somewhere pretty close to the 'notch' from the manual, from this position turn 360° degrees. at this position now both valves should be closed, both rocker-arms at there topmost position and there should be a gap between rocker-arms and valve-shaft, if the mark is at the correct position too then this should be the TDC you are looking for.
